Taylor, William Henry, Private, 9624, E Company, 1st Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
William Henry was the oldest son of Henry (b.1864) and Clara (née Collier, 1864-1939), who married in 1890. He was born in 1891 and had 6 siblings. Rose Scott was born in 1885, the daughter of Clara and her first husband, David Scott (1844-1888). The other 5 children of Henry and Clara were George (born 1894, but died in his first year), Annie Louisa (b. 1896), Clara Elizabeth (born 1897 but also died in her first year), Frederick Archibald (1898-1967) and Arthur Horace (b. 1902).
In 1911, Henry and Clara, together with Annie, Frederick and Arthur were living in Nelson Street, Derby but by then William had joined up and was a private in the 1st Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, stationed in Hong Kong. Later, Henry and family moved to Church Hill in Spondon, which is presumably why William is mentioned on the memorial there.
William died of wounds 23rd July 1915 and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), I, C, 96.

There seems to be no close family connection to Frederick Taylor.
